North Platte Canteen welcomed 6 million soldiers during World War II |

During World War II as the troop train came to a stop at the Union Pacific Railroad depot in North Platte, Nebraska, throngs of U.S. servicemen flew from the cars and bounded into the canteen housed within the depot. As the men and women of the U.S. Armed Services stepped up to the counter, they were greeted with smiles and “What would like?” by the Nebraskan women behind the counter. |
