Remember Mad Men? If you were a fan of that series, which meticulously recreated American life in the early 1960s, after awhile you noticed something: nearly everyone on Mad Men smoked. A lot. It’s something you don’t see much anymore, in the movies or on TV, unless in a true-to-the-times flashback. If someone’s smoking in a story set in the present-day, chances are the character is either a villain or an eccentric. And, all that onscreen smoke is actually a smokescreen: herbals, or other non-tobacco, non-addictive alternatives are used to create the necessary illusion.

Dwyer bitter’s bottle collection will highlight ABA auction
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – American Bottle Auctions will present Part 1 of the Don Dwyer collection of bitters and soda bottles in online auction #70, starting Feb. 26 and ending on March 7. Part 2 will be announced in the coming weeks. Part 1 will contain about 250 bottles, nearly all from the Dwyer collection but to include an assortment of related go-withs.

Holy utility belt Batman: $16,940 paid for iconic toy
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A Batman utility belt set a record recently when Van Eaton Galleries hosted a sale of pop culture items. The most sought after of all 1960s Batman collectibles, the rare Official Batman Utility Belt manufactured by Ideal (1966) sold for a record $16,940. Van Eaton Galleries says this is the highest price ever paid for a vintage Batman toy.

Museum looks at how every day objects have changed through the years
MILDFORD, Del. (AP) -- Local history buffs looking for something fresh to do can check out the new “Then and Now” exhibit at the Milford Museum.
